Moore's law predicts that the number of transistors on a chip doubles every 18months. However, the force driving Moore's law is not limited to transistor technology, and therefore Moore's law will go on far after we reach the maximum transistor density allowed by physics with new technologies. Our economy depends on the continuation of Moore's law, and predicting its failure is equivalent to predicting our society's demise. Moore's law will not fail, and has been in fact accelerating EXPONENTIALLY. Yes, the exponent is accelerating exponentially (because of increased investment).

So... when will all this happen? The human brain has 10^16 calculations per second. The best supercomputer today has 1.2 petaflops of processing power (10^15), just ten times shy of the human brain. According to Moore's Law, by 2045 a computer that costs $1000 will be able to process as much information as ALL humans who have ever lived. Combined.

I have one message to the people reading this: Stay healthy and prepare for the inevitability of the Singularity.
